This is the awe inspiring portrait of Carolyn Downs the female Black Panther party member whose dedication to impoverished red lined Black children and families in the 1960-70 created what is now free breakfast and lunch program at schools for impoverished children in Seattle She died of a brain tumor as the Black Panther Medical Clinic ( then named The Sydney Miller free clinic) was moving from central Seattle to Madrona 34th and Union. The clinic was named in her honor and is still serving the Black Community at 23rd and Yesler I was privileged to work there from 1988-1998 Adrienne LaFaye is the artist Her work is awesome capturing the spirit of black folks who must not be forgotten in Seattle's history I hope to donate to the Carolyn Downs Family Medical Center in the future Check out Adrienne LaFaye Arts She will have an exhibit at King Street Station upcoming I am so grateful to have been in her and her wife's presence yesterday as she bestowed Carolyn's energy and memory and spirit to me!! countrydoctor.org
